NYFW Fall 2016 - Michael DePaulo

It is time to talk
about fashion. Recently I was in New York to cover several important fashion
shows during the New York Fashion Week Fall 2016. Despite the subzero
temperatures in the city designers, models and attendees survived and the week
was a big success.
One of the shows I
attended was Michael De Paulo. Originally from Massachusetts De Paulo is now
based in New York City. He earned a Masters in Architecture from Northwestern
University. He likes to work with rich
fabrics such as satin, chiffon, crepe and silk. His designs often feature
feathers, geometric beading, and embroidery.
DePaulo’s Fall/Winter
2016 collection was inspired by the idea of a modern-day Marie Antoinette. The color palette for evening wear was
composed of reds, ivory, earth tone shades, and variations of gray. One piece
was a stunning embroidered jumpsuit. Another particularly exciting piece was a
sophisticated ballerina style short dress. Everything in the show illustrated
his brilliant use of details including beading, pleats, custom prints and
geometric draping. To complement the effect and beauty of the collection each
model’s hair was worn in a top-knot fashioned by Christo owner of Christo Fifth
Avenue salon.

New York Fashion Week Fall 2014 - Day 2
March 8, 2014
February 7 was my second day at New York Fashion Week. In
the morning I attended Carmen Marc Valvo Fall 2014 show. Although the weather
was still extremely cold, I was eager to wear my new fuchsia bomber jacket. I
love this piece so much and the color is stunning.
After the show I stopped to have a healthy lunch and window
shop at the pastry display.
I finished the day in Times Square at Ellen’s StardustDiner, the legendary retro 1950’s theme diner where I met my friends Margarette
and Jose Carlos. What a fun night!

Yuna Yang - New York Fashion Week Fall 2014
March 6, 2014
The designer Yuna Yang’s fashion show was the last one I
attended on my first day of New York Fashion Week. The designer presented her
fall 2014 collection at Alvin Alley American Dance Theater. The collection
entitled “Butterfly Mother” was inspired by the Miao culture, an ethnic group
from southwest China. The collection was
a mix of prints and boyish cuts with feminine embellishments. Black lace was
juxtaposed against bright neon silks, ornamented sweaters with midi silk
skirts, silk dresses with slouchy socks paired with sneakers, and vibrant blue
dresses.

Fashion - Alvin Valley Trunk Show
On November 20 I had the chance to meet
the designer Alvin Valley who is famous for his classic pants. The event was
held at the Mandarin Hotel in Boston. It was a trunk show to help the relaunch
of Alvin's brand and launch of his website AlvinValley.com. Now
Alvin's latest collection is been sold exclusively online. The event was also held in
some other US capitals such as DC and NYC
The website AlvinValley.com, is tailored
around his expertise in quality, precision and fit. Ranging from high-waisted
styles, to the flattering skinny, to modern trousers for the office, Alvin's
designs create a flawless fit that enhances every woman's body. Alvin's genius
lies in his ability to understand and cast the
female form in its best light, thus earning him the title, "King of Pants", by
Women’s Wear Daily in 2004.
AlvinValley.com features 36 pant options,
which contain pioneering inner construction developed by the designer over the
past two years to create the perfect fit. They come in an array of colors
including basic black, white, gray and khaki as well as purple, red, yellow,
blue, green and pink. Alvin brings back iconic styles from his archives infused
with a modern twist including the 310 Lana and the 111 wide waistband and new
classics including the 190 skinny crop and the 198 two-tone. Only the highest
quality fabrics are used including the finest Italian wools, classic cottons and
airy linens and all pants are made in New York City. By selling directly to the
consumer at AlvinValley.com, the collection, which previously retailed at
high-end department stores and boutiques for $325 to $700, now sells between $195 and $335.
