Fashion - Phylyda Swimwear SUITING FOR ALL

October 18, 2018

Phylyda (pronounced phil-le-da), a line of swimwear and après-swim loungewear by Lydia Maurer specializing in suiting for all—emphasis on all.

A collection that offers a pleasing array of beautifully printed and boldly colored swimwear ranging from sizes 4 to 18, and up to a 42F cup.

Phylyda aims to redefine fashion-forward swimwear for all, crafting the perfect-fitting separates that are made to mix and match and celebrate the nuances and diversity of the female figure. Pairing aesthetically-driven designs with fit-focused techniques and technology, each item in Phylyda’s collection is customizable and current. A pleasure-seeker first and foremost, the Phylyda woman knows she’s beautiful because she knows herself and reaches for swimwear that lets her truly dive into life.

The German-born 33-year-old designer, who studied at Studio Berçot in Paris and has brands such as Yves Saint LaurentGivenchy, and Paco Rabanne on her résumé, is back in her hometown, Berlin, and fearlessly taking the plunge into swimwear. “For the first year, it was all about funneling the great inspiration and knowledge I had gained throughout my career,” says Maurer. “Essentially, I think as a designer, it is my job to make pieces that work with the natural shape of different bodies and to bring out the best of what’s there!”

NYFW - CAAFD Collective Showcases for New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 19 Season

October 5, 2018

CAAFD Stages Two Highly Lauded Collective Showcases for New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 19 Season

New York Fashion week always surprises me every season. This September was not different. I attended CAAFD Collective Showcases Spring/Summer 19 Season and was surprised by so many talented designers.

CAAFDThe Council of Aspiring American Fashion Designers, brought some of the best rising and emerging designers from around the globe to the fashion capital of the world for a spectacularly received set of Spring/Summer 19 Collective Showcases. CAAFD, in collaboration with iFashion Network, presented this Collective Showcase at both the renowned Pier 59 venue as well as the world famous Industria venue on September 10th, 2018. The Pier59 collective showcase’s lineup proved a thunderous occasion with designers and brands MOUTON BLANCZabetta Couture, Ayni and Thunyatorn, and the Industria collective showcase featured designers and brands Helena Bajaj-Larsen, Yufash, Sania Studio and Patricia Wijaya, both of which mark yet another successful and couldn’t be missed continuation of CAAFD’s long running series of NYFW showcases. Those in attendance were thrilled with the offerings, including several well-known models such as Madeline Stuart and actors including Mario Van Peebles.

I attended four designers shows at the Industria, which kicked off with an impressive introduction performance by musician Yoav Shemmesh, featuring the musician on a keytar and launchpad device which provided the rhythm sections for his playing. Following the performance was the first designer for this showcase, Helena Bajaj-Larsen. Featuring striking colors that remained consistent with through each design. Each piece featured unique designs, with no one inspiration, there were bits and pieces from various different countries and regions represented.

Following that came Estonian born designer Kadri Klampe with her Yufash brand. This collection featured extremely unique cuts and sheer materials, creating an entirely unique look. Yufash played with colors and designs throughout each piece, featuring almost glitch-like patterns.

Next came an intermission played by Yoav Shemmesh once again who played a custom CAAFDinspired piece which thrilled the audience goers, which led into Sania Studio and designer Sania Maskatiya with her Pakistani influences clear in her collection. The cuts in this collection remained modern, but the designs and colors were clearly inspired by Pakistan influences.

Finishing this showcase came Patricia Wijaya, a graduate of the Academy of Arts, who closed NYFW with a bang. This showcase left New York City awed with an extraordinarily unique collection featuring fantastical inspired cuts and eye catching headwear. This collection had an underlying dark color palette, with dark blue and golds represented heavily to great effect. The shoes for this collection were provided by Cava Prive and jewelry was done by Dale Beevers.

NYFW - Christopher Lowman S/S 19 Presentation

Triumphantly titled The Glorious Olympics, Lowman’s Spring/Summer 2019 collection takes inspiration from the 1980’s Summer Olympics. Fusing street style with luxury fabrics in bold colors and patterns, The Glorious Olympics revamps looks from the official Olympics opening ceremonies of that decade, re-imagining it for the modern age by merging sophisticated, clean lines and silhouettes with a touch of edge and featuring lambskin leathers mixed with neoprene, mixed media cow hides, golden tricot nylons, pullovers, and tracksuits all in unique shapes and textures.

NYFW - Marcel Ostertag: Spring/Summer 2019

Marcel Ostertag presented his 2019 Spring/Summer collection called MUSE Wednesday, September 12th at Spring Studios. MUSE is Ostertag’s sixth time showing during New York Fashion Week and the first time ever for the men’s line.

Ostertag’s MUSE is a tactile and colorful journey influenced deeply by the close relationships with the muses in his life.  The designer feels “Kissed by the muse” every day and their inspiration on his collection and daily life is something he is grateful for. In a tribute to these special women, he dedicates MUSE to them.  There are several women that Ostertag considers muses but none more important than his mother, Doris. Said the designer after his show,”My mother’s love and guidance are always present in my heart.  Her unwavering support allows me to design freely and to follow my creative dreams.”

The designer also cites the music, art and fashion of the 70’s, a decade that continuously fascinates him, as a source of inspiration for this collection.  The highwaisted, pleated pants and sequined bell sleeve tops, as well as the various takes on the ubiquitous wrap-dress in particular give a nod to 70’s silhouette throughout the collection.  Despite the obvious vintage inspired vibe, the entire collection still felt completely fresh and modern due to Ostertag’s masterly touch.

MUSE is a joyful explosion of yellows, blues, lavenders, oranges and nudes that was summed up perfectly in his Rainbow sweater; a cashmere crew comprising of over 24 shades of brightly colored yarn.  Other highlights of the show were the over embroidered and beaded pants, Iris printed charmeuse ruffle tiered gown, and the blush sequined mesh top.  Standouts from the men’s capsule collection were the oversized color blocked cashmere hoodie and Fuji silk jumpsuit (as well as a wildly editorial, but ultimately niche version in blush micro sequins).

Marcel Ostertag shoes again were produced by German footwear manufacturef Tamaris.  The women’s shoes featured block heeled suede booties, kitten heel pumps and a show stopping knee length knit and fringed boot in lavender.  For the men, white sneakers featuring pops of bright colored elastic bands across the instep that are sure to be best sellers.

Marcel Ostertag’s entire collection is meticulously designed and produced in Germany from the finest materials sourced from Italy.  The models, including the newly betrothed Barron Hilton III and Tessa Hilton, made their way down the runway to music created by the designer’s brother; musical artist Johann Ostertag.  Hair was created by the Redken team, make-up by NYX Professional Makeup, and nails by New York based Gloss Lab.

MD Complete Got Me Clear with the Acne Clearing System

July 29, 2018

Have you ever suffered from acne? Although acne is a common skin condition, it can easily be treated and avoided by following an effective skin routine. Acne is caused by inflammation of the hair follicles and oil-producing (sebaceous) glands of the skin.

Acne often begins during puberty. It occurs when sebaceous glands in the skin are over-stimulated to produce sebum and skin cells are not shed normally. These sticky cells block the skin's hair follicles, trapping the sebum.

For the acne suffers I partnered with MD Complete to show you their60-day Acne Clearing System that includes: Clarifying Cleanser, Breakout Treatment, Citrus-C Healthy Complexion and Healthy Skin Probiotics.

MD Complete’s Acne Clearing System provides a better solution because of it:
- Mimics the combination therapies by combining high potency Retinol with Benzoyl Peroxide
- Macro-encapsulates ingredients to be more effectively and gently absorbed into the skin
- Nourishes with Vitamin C, B & E to reduce the appearance of marks and restore a beautiful, healthy-looking complexion

Acne Clarifying Cleanser: Natural botanicals and salicylic acid unite to gently exfoliate without stripping skin. Wash away impurities that can clog pores and prevent future breakouts with this light, refreshing infusion of Green Tea, Gingko Biloba and Ginseng.

Acne Breakout Treatment: Our top-rated spot treatment eliminates breakouts without the flakiness of typical Benzoyl Peroxide remedies. This innovative formula hydrates while it helps eliminate acne, effectively repairing the skin and leaving your complexion clear, calm and collected.

Citrus-C Healthy Complexion: Infused with Retinol and Vitamin C, this correcting serum diminishes post-acne dark marks and refines skin texture. Packed with nutrients (including Vitamins A, B, C, and E), this multi-tasking formula also moisturizes skin, leaving a clean-feeling, matte finish.

Healthy Skin Probiotic: Exclusive to MDComplete.com! This nutritional supplement addresses the effects of stress on gut health, supporting calmer, healthier-looking skin.
