Arte Que Salva is a
project which helps children who live in disadvantage and poverty. It was
founded by Brazilian missionary Eve Picardi who has organized mission trips to
Brazil and several other countries. She made a visit to Haiti shortly after the
2010 earthquake that did extensive damage to the country. Ms. Picardi saw the
misery of the people whose homes and dreams were suddenly destroyed. Her vision
was to help the displaced children recover from their trauma by providing them
with art supplies. Many of the children had never seen art brushes and paints.
The endeavor in Haiti
was a success and thus began the Arte Que Salva project. Organized by Eve
Picardi and Miami artist Carmem Gusmao, the project is now in its 3rd year and
for the first time will have an auction which features art that was made by
underprivileged children who live in Sanford, Florida and Rio de Janeiro’s
infamous landfield (Lixao de Gramacho). The children drew pictures of their
dreams which were then sent to professional artists. Those artists completed
the children’s work to create paintings that will be offered in the auction.
Among the 48 Brazilian artists who volunteered their time is Margarette Mattos
of Cambridge-MA. All the profits from the auction will go directly to support
the Central Florida Dream Education Center and the Life Change Project in Rio
de Janeiro. These programs provide educational and mentoring services for
children.
The auction Arte Que
Salva – USA 2015 will take place in Miami, Florida on March 26.

Finally, spring is almost here. We who live in the Northeast
appreciate this. What about celebrating this gorgeous season with one of those
unique pairs of sneakers designed by Nike Women’s Sportswear?
The newest model of Air Max 1 is the “Ultra City” Collection. It includes patterns
inspired by six of the world’s style capitals. New York is represented by black
and white roses and Paris by pink roses and blue lilies. London and Tokyo follow
with more roses and cherry blossoms, respectively. Finally Milan is represented
by lilies and Shanghai by plum blossoms.
The shoes were released globally on International
Women’s Day, March 8th except in North America. The Women’s Nike Sportswear Spring 2015 City
Collection will be available in North America, online at nike.com/sportswear and
at select Nike Sportswear retailers beginning April 11.

Hi everyone!
As you know spring is approaching and it is time for prom bashes. Teenagers around the country are looking forward the big event. Girls especially are looking for their perfect dress. However, it is not every girl who is able to afford to buy her dream prom dress. Fortunately, there are some charities around the country that try to help those girls.
This year Style My Bridal which is
an online bridal store became a collection partner for Belle of the Ball, a Boston-based charity that
collects and distributes dresses to high school juniors and seniors who
otherwise could not afford to attend their prom. Anton's Cleaners donates all
of the dry cleaning and other partners supply shoes and jewelry. Approved recipients
attend a Boutique Day hosted at Simmons College. They select a dress and
volunteer seamstresses make alterations if necessary. In 2014 there were 400
girls who attended and selected from among 2,000 dresses.
We have
collection spots set up in 3 places in MA and 2 spots in NYC. They're listed here. If you are
interested in collecting dresses from family and friends in another area,
let us know and we can work something out.
Also, if you know anyone who
needs a dress, there are directions on the Belle of the Ball site to apply for
one!
Dresses:
- Should be something a high schooler can wear to the prom (trendy, stylish)
- Can be any color, any style and any size!
- Don't need to be dry cleaned - Anton's Cleaners will do that

What is the future of televisions?
Some years ago when you wanted to buy a TV, the number of options included were
limited. The most common things to look for were regular specifications like
size, price, and black & white or color.
Today it is necessary to
choose among all sorts of specifications and features when you shop for a new TV. In addition to screen size and cost such
features as resolution, contrast, and definition are usually part of the
decision. Another critical choice is whether you want a LED, LCD or plasma TV.
Currently
there is a fantastic new option which offers even more features. I recently had
the opportunity to attend an LG Electronics event in which I viewed a
demonstration of their OLED TV. It has more advanced features than I could have
imagined were possible.
The first
thing I noticed about this amazing TV was how stylish and thin it is. Its
screen is curved and it is only 4.3mm thick, the same thickness as a pencil. I have never seen a TV so thin. The curved screen
gives you the new option to watch your favorite show from any angle in your
room without losing the picture quality.
Another special feature
is the way the TV turns when you want to watch your favorite movie in a dark
room. Because OLED displays do not require
a backlight, pixels that are switched off are truly black, so OLED achieves
deeper black levels and a higher contrast ratio. When compared to LCD (liquid
crystal display) TVs with conventional cold cathode fluorescent lamp (CCFL)
backlighting, there is a quite a difference in the quality of the picture. The black of the screen doesn’t turn grey
when you dim the lights in the room.
For sports
fans the LG TruMotion 240Hz technology lets you enjoy sporting events and
high-speed action with enhanced clarity. Expect even the fastest action to be dependably
crystal clear and virtually blur-free.
For me the most
extraordinary feature of this TV is that it has most of the smart functions
found on a smart phone. It has webOS user interface features that allow instant
access to your favorite apps. You can access your favorite apps instantly. It
has a magic remote control that connects you with point
& click, the scroll of a wheel, and the LG’s advanced Voice Mate feature
with natural speech recognition. Yes, you can send voice commands to your TV, request
to search for a special episode of a show, or find a film starring your
favorite Hollywood actor! You can even control all your home entertainment devices
with just one remote. Say goodbye to that pile
of remote controls.
Do you
want to know the cost of this TV? I was surprised to find that the price of the
OLED TV was less than I expected. The cost of the 55 inch model is $ 3,499.
